Domo-Farm Frites final selection. Out - Axel Merckx - back problems not completely cleared. Johan Museeuw slight knee problem. Prefers not to take any chances before Tour of Flanders and Paris-Roubaix. Team will be Cassani/Cretskens/Knaven/Konecny/Milesi/Rodriguez/Van Heeswijk/Virenque

Mapei - Stefano Garzelli out. He went down with a throat problem during the Tirreno-Adriatico and has been forced to rest for 5 days. Team will be - Oscar Freire, Paolo Bettini, Italian Champion Daniele Nardello, Laszlo Bodrogi, Davide Bramati, Luca Paolini, Stefano Zanini and Robert Hunter.

Danilo Di Luca will be the leader of the Saeco Macchine per Caffe'-Longoni Sport team for Milan-San Remo. Biagio Conte was 4th last year. Salvatore Commesso (Ita) will not be riding after his retirement at the Tirreno-Adriatico showed he is not in top form.

Fernando Cortinovis from Lampre-Daikin has informed me that the team for Milan-San Remo will be as below. He says that "the lack of Rumsas is serious but with Svorada, Sciandri and Bertogliati we hope to do good".

Raimondas Rumsas crashed in the Trofeo dell'Etna and will be out of action due to lacerations and contusions. He was due to ride both the Tirreno-Adriatico and San Remo. Rubens Bertogliati replaces him.

David Latasa Lasa was 179th a year ago 15' 39" down. He had been in a 4 man break with Sergey Matveyev (Panaria), Martin Rittsel (CSC) and Milan Kadlec (Mobilvetta) who had at one time a lead of 9'50". The break was caught on the Cipressa after being away for 155 km. José Ivan Gutierrez was 83rd at 1' 43" riding for ONCE.

Olano was 87th last year 1'43" down on Zabel. Zarrabeitia was 123rd at 4'50". Jaksche was in 150th place at 7'12".

12 March 2001 - Since picking the team José Cayetano Juliá has been in collision with a with a car while out training. His injuries are not serious however but he has a neck sprain and bruising to his body.

 
   

Lotto-Adecco

 
Lotto-Adecco have chosen their riders to take part in the 2002 Milan-San Remo. It includes the 1999 winner Andrei Tchmil in his final few months as a pro rider and Peter Van Petegem who left the Palmans-Collstrop team last season to join Lotto.

Van Petegem, who was in the crash with 300m to go on the Via Roma, finished in 13th place last year riding for Mercury. Mario Aerts was 18th.

A 'Top Club' (shown in bold) must take part in at least nine events otherwise it will be excluded from the 'Top Clubs' the following year.
